Name: Bamboo

Country of Origin: Tropical Americas, northern Burma, Southern China, Thailand, and Vietnam.


Uses: The shoots of the bamboo are edible. They are used in numerous Asian dishes and broths. Pickled bamboo, used as a condiment, may also be made from the pith of the young shoot. Prior to bamboo being used for flooring and sold to the states, chief uses were furniture, including rattan and bamboo materials such as baskets, chairs, and the like.

Additional Notes: Bamboo is also widely carved for decorative artwork.
