Kahuna Cabin

Kahuna Cabin: Recycled Artistry with Ocean Sunrise Views

The Kahuna Cabin was a cozy, eco-friendly cottage constructed primarily from recycled and renewable materials. Built to offer a homey, comfortable, and rustic refuge, it provided environmentally conscious travelers with a peaceful sanctuary nestled right in the heart of our Big Island rainforest community.

Guests resting in Kahuna Cabin were treated to gorgeous ocean views. By simply opening the cabin door while relaxing in bed, visitors could watch the sun rise directly out of the Pacific Ocean. The center of the cottage featured a majestic 19th-century antique king-size bed frame, blending historic craftsmanship with tropical eco-living.

Conveniently located near our main community facilities, Kahuna Cabin offered electrical outlets alongside easy access to our eco-friendly flush toilet. Guests also enjoyed our solar-heated semi-outdoor Jungle Shower, a private luxury that allowed visitors to bathe surrounded by lush tropical fronds in total privacy and style.

Upcycled Living & Community Versatility

Designed with flexibility in mind, Kahuna Cabin accommodated couples, small families, or visiting volunteers. When guests traveled with a child or a third companion, our team prepared an additional single bed inside the cottage space for a small supplementary fee.

The exterior wall of the cabin showcased our painted Equalism Mural, symbolizing our commitment to gender harmony, body positivity, and ecofeminist principles. While the physical cabin was lost in 2018, its artistic spirit lives on through our ongoing community work and educational handbooks.

Preserving History, Building the Future

Although our physical rainforest sanctuary was claimed by the Kilauea volcano in 2018, our community wisdom lives on.
