Hedonisia Solitude: Artist & Creative Colony

December 2019 – Artists & Creatives in Solitude!

In the Black Sands Subdivision near Kalapana, we own two lots of undeveloped land about 14 miles away from the original Hedonisia property.

This land was not in the flow path so is relatively unaffected by the 2018 Kilauea eruption.

Our goal is to create a tiny community here, and then move back to our original property once roads are built and there is access to the area again.

We are looking for applicants who wish to come to Hawaii from December 2019 onwards!

Hedonisia Solitude allows much more time for you to settle down and be creative in ‘island time’! Our new mini-Hedonisia is close to Kehena Beach and other Hawaii attractions!

Even if you don’t have building skills you can still be a volunteer! We will also do lava hike reconnaissance missions to the original Hedonisia property where we can continue to plan our rebuilding options.

We hope to have our first eco-hut built in December 2019.

For this initial jungle hut, we are looking for pioneers who wish to live in an environment of rustic solitude!

As an Artist Colony, we want a space that is a peaceful place to work on Hedonisia and their own creative projects.

Our goal is to build a rustic creative colony of solitude! In Phase 1, the eco-hut will have no electricity or water.

Drinking water is freely available from a public stand 2 miles away. Electricity will be solar chargers or power packs. We are using a Home Bio-Gas Toilet which creates cooking gas from compost and toilet waste.

Post-Volcano Hedonisia Solitude

Volunteer, Intern & Guest Programs

There is less strenuous work than on our pre-volcano 4-acre jungle! As a result, the volunteer and intern programs are much easier! You will have ample free time to get a job in town. Or you can enjoy your free time being an ‘eco-tourist’ in one of the most beautiful islands, Hawaii!

Until we can fully return and rebuld on our original land we are offering a mini-version of our pre-volcano Intern and Volunteer programs!

Phase One – Dec 6, 2019 to March 8, 2020 – Pioneer Rebulding

Eco-Dome Construction by Christopher

Community Director, Mojo will be on the island during this period. This is when we will be building our first eco-hut and eco-dome.

Due to the fact that when Mojo is on-island he can offer flexible stays, we can offer stays of less than 3 months during this period.

Simply let us know how long you’d like to stay in your Application.

Phase Two: March 9, 2020 –  Dec 11, 2020 – Hedonisia Solitude

Mojo returns to the Hedonisia Portland Micro-Community. While he is gone and due to the fact that that our first building will be a single eco-hut, we are  only offering lodgings for a minimum 3-month stay during this period.

We are still offering different options for your stay! The main difference is that once a reservation is accepted for a 3-month slot on the calendar, it is gone!

Hedonisia Solititude will evolve as we start  building more eco-huts. The second one is scheduled for February 2020.

a) Guest Stay:

Single adult or couple: $350 a month.  There is one required 3-hour per week Community Support Shift of maintenance or beautification and working at your own pace!

b) Intern Program!

One-time fee of $695 for a three to six-month stay. The work requirement is 12 hours of heart, body or brain work per week plus property maintenance and upkeep.

c) Volunteer Program

$150 per month. The volunteer work requirement is 12 hours a week on brain, heart or body work.

Heart, Body & Brain Work!

Based on their experience and interests, volunteers, guests or interns can still choose to work on any of the sites in the Hedonisia Creative & EcoFeminist Entrepreneur Portfolio as part of their Mind Work.

Under our Heart work option, artistic painters and muralists can also use their skills to paint Hedonisia eco-feminist art murals on our first post volcano eco-hut in the tradition of our original community murals.

However, as a smaller community, there will always be body work whether on the land or in community maintenance chores!

Car Driver Priority!

We give priority to applicants who have the budget to purchase or rent a car. The property is more than a mile from the 130 highway. While it is possible to walk or hitchhike to the main road, it is not advisable. Water and supplies still need to be brought in and trash taken out.

We are not a car rental agency. However, we offer a Honda CRV for guests or interns. The Car Maintenance and Usage Fee for this vehicle is $400 a month.

Taking reservations from December 2019 onwards!
