Artists & Creatives in Solitude!
In the Black Sands Subdivision near Kalapana, we own two lots of undeveloped land about 14 miles away from the original Hedonisia property. This land was not in the flow path so is relatively unaffected by the 2018 Kilauea eruption.
Our goal is to create a tiny artist colony community and then move back to our original property once roads are built and there is access to the area again.
We are looking for applicants who wish to come to Hawaii from December 2019 onwards!
Even if you don’t have building skills you can still be a volunteer! There are many jobs an unskilled person can do, as long as they have enthusiasm for learning!
We will also do lava hike reconnaissance missions to the original Hedonisia property where we can continue our rebuilding plans.
We hope to have our first eco-hut built in December 2019.
For this initial jungle hut, we are looking for pioneers who wish to live in an environment of rustic solitude!
As an Artist Colony, we want a space that is a peaceful place to work on Hedonisia and their own creative projects.
Our goal is to build a rustic creative colony of solitude! In Phase 1, the eco-hut will have no electricity or water.
Drinking water is freely available from a public stand 2 miles away. Electricity will be solar chargers or power packs. We are using a Home Bio-Gas Toilet which creates cooking gas from compost and toilet waste.

Phase One – Dec 6, 2019 to March 8, 2020 – Pioneer Rebulding Volunteer Guests
We own nearby property which was not destroyed by the eruption. It is from this land that we will start afresh with Hedonisia Solitude.
Our first eco-hut will be rustic, with only minimal amenities. However, it will be located in a lovely forest of Strawberry Guava trees.
Hedonisia Community Director, Mojo will be on the island during this period. This is when we will be building our first eco-hut and eco-dome.
We seek pioneers during this informal period when we will be rebuilding.
Due to the fact that when Mojo is on-island he can offer flexible stays, we can offer stays from 1 week to 3 months during this period.
We can only offer basic tent lodgings in Phase 1. However, the rates for our Pioneer Volunteer Guest Program are very cheap!
We only require 15 hours per week which will be on a flexible basis while we are building. So you will have lots of time to enjoy Hawaii.
As well, because Mojo has a vehicle he will be able to take you on informal tours of some of the post-volcano attractions as well as supplies and grocery trips to Pahoa town.
The price for Volunteer Guests during Phase 1 is $200 per month or $60 per week.
Simply let us know how long you’d like to stay in your Application.
Artist Colony: Heart, Body & Brain Work!
Post-Volcano Hedonisia Solitude
Volunteer, Intern & Guest Programs
There is less strenuous work than on our pre-volcano 4-acre jungle! As a result, the volunteer and intern programs are much easier! You will have ample free time to get a job in town. Or you can enjoy your free time being an ‘eco-tourist’ in one of the most beautiful islands, Hawaii!
Based on their experience and interests, volunteers, guests or interns can still choose to work on any of the sites in the Hedonisia Creative & EcoFeminist Entrepreneur Portfolio as part of their Mind Work.
Under our Heart work option, artistic painters and muralists can also use their skills to paint Hedonisia eco-feminist art murals on our first post volcano eco-hut in the tradition of our original community murals.
However, as a smaller community, there will always be body work whether on the land or in community maintenance chores!
